Yer ,Steve , there is a professional system for etching say a company brand onto an item that uses similar .

This video shows a steel belt buckle being salt water/electro etched to good depth of relief.

     

A similar salt electrolytic process is often used by bespoke knife makers to etch a design onto the blade,but they use a cotton pad electrode similar to the vid Rob posted.....OZ.

Apologies, Rob for getting things diverted  :offtopic: -- I momentarily got excited about the possibilities after seeing what you'd done.  :palm: I really admire your historical knowledge and approach to making things, including traditional etching and plating. That fantastic forge is really the focus here!!  :beer:
