Buying materials.
« on: November 20, 2014, 03:41:45 PM »
Okay, so it is not a how do I?, but more a where do I?

Where do people buy their material from in the UK?
I have been using Ebay for small bits of brass etc, but are there any suppliers I should be using direct for a better deal?

A Google search has not revealed anything much.

I have used them before, and seen them at the shows.
I have also come across these: https://maccmodels.co.uk/
Their prices look good. Can anyone recommend them?

Unfortunately, it seems to be the postage on items that make them expensive.
This place is probably within driving distance: http://www.collegeengineering.co.uk/home.htm
Again, can anyone recommend them?

I buy a lot via ebay because its convenient and don't have to venture out with downtime. Factor in the delivery costs.
Large orders ASC, which reminds me.

Wouldn't recommend College attempted to collect on two separate arranged occasions ie 10 mins and couldn't be bothered to answer the door.

If your south of Birmingham Ian then Redditch has a "rapid metals" bit pricy but if you only want small bits might be better than ebay.

Hah! Come to Cyprus and experience real material problems.

They have one type of iron here, no bright steel, no free cutting steel, just normal pig iron.
I did manage to find some cast iron, that was nice, but other then that? Not a chance.

I am now looking for a shop that sells epoxy resins, carbon fiber cloth etc. Nope, only polyester.
Ah well, at least it is sunny.
