The Wild Wheel - Garet Garret on Henry Ford

I've just finished this book, available free to download

There's no machining tips, not a sign of a cutting tool. And everybody on Earth has heard of Henry Ford.

This is the story of what drove the man, a theory of reinvestment of profits rather than huge dividends for shareholders.

It starts with Henry doubling the wages he would pay  and creating a traffic jam of unskilled labour, all eager to start.

For so many years he built just the Model T starting with a price tag of $1200 and ending at £295 for the identical car.

It goes on to describe how he would always consider making every component in-house, including buying iron mines and smelting.

The book is really about economics and Ford's methodology could not work today, with union power and government's heavy hand. But he did so much to create the wealth we have become accustomed to. A giant.
