Cam Locked Sculpturers Vice

A friend of mine asked for a vice, that he could screw the work piece on it and position and work with any angle. He planned to use hammer and chisels on it so it had to be sturdy enough and not unlock itself when banged on it. It should be handled by easy locking no wrenches should be used etc…

So, here it is. In case you would care to look at it. Nothing special about it. Simple and straight forward. Please ignore the machining scratches and flaws I could sand them off and polished, but it is only a vice after all. Soon enough it will get his share of scratching and be ugly again without any of my help.

Bottom jaw drilled four corners for clamping to a counter and counter bored for 8mm Allen bolt.

Ball 30mm and neck 100mm all carved from one piece, end has squared 10mm, drilled and topped 6mm.

top plate slotted ball-bar to fit so, it wouldnt unscreved
10mm adjusting bolt.

Cam column turned from started 20mm, dropped 12mm Chrome round stock drilled 10mm to receive 10mm cam pin. Drilled

Lever turned from 30mm round stock, slotted 12mm, at top and tapped 10mm to receive the handle and also drilled through 10mm to receive the pin. Handle turned from15mm round stock threaded.

Thank you kindly everyone to take the time to view. That’s what I thought that it would be an idea for keeps, for later of use somewhere else.  :) :) :)

he is happy  :ddb: and I am more so, for I can start other projects of my own.
I felt some degree of stress,  :doh: in case it wouldnt work. I tried a huge block (340mm Diameter by 450mm tall) of fire wood on it and angled 30-45 degrees and banged on it. it wouldnt move. :dremel:

for the hemispherical recesses, I carved simple V grove largest part met the circle of 30 diameter for the both jaws. Than I Improvised a little,  :scratch: used 25mm Dia ball sand-stone I happened to have, and smothed in.

Cam handle was the easyst part of all actually even for me.
