They say everyone has their vices...
« on: February 20, 2012, 06:03:34 PM »
..Here's a couple of mine.

this one a neighbor gave me. the down leg was cracked. I Tig welded it with nickle rod and then made a hammer to face the weld so it looks pitted like the rest of the leg.

if you look close the cut marks are still visible where someone long cut the main beams with a fro. must have been some job to make one of these even partially by hand.

This vice came out of the floor of a barn. nobody knows how long it was buried there. a friend had bought a horse farm and was cleaning out the stalls when this turned up in a bucket load.
the only thing wrong with it is the screw had been broken off. its about 8" long where I think it used to be about 12"

They are beauties, thanks for showing them.
Must admit, I have a bit of a guilty fascination for old blacksmith vices.

Have two that I actually use in the forge. Neither is in as good condition as yours, both old and battered.

They are getting a bit hard to come by now, so if they do turn up cheap and local on ebay, I tend to snap them up. Just in case.

This is the Vice Boneyard section of my TWCIUOD pile.
