Scratch build a VMC .. any interest

Iīve built a large VMC, in tool steel, any interest ..

ATM the z axis ballscrew is kaput, due to my installer losing the balls ..
In about 4 weeks, I hope to have a new (40 mm?) screw on the z with ac bearings on the mounts, coupler, etc. and be able to do pics.

Industrial specs, 32 mm screws, 220v 1 kw ac servos, csmio 24V io and controller, 1600 mm bed, 600 mm y, 500 mm z movement (600 mm clearance), 35 mm hiwin rails, 2.5 kw industrial 3-phase motor, bt30 spindle and toolchanger, etc.

How were you trying to post pictures? They have to be hosted somewhere and you insert a link  "[i_mg]Link to hosted image[/i_mg]" (ignore the underscores) or be posted as attachments.

itīs 2400 kg in mass, tool steel, "F1 calibrado" - ie a basic low-strength tool steel widely available here in spain, somewhat flat and straight and to size, about 3€ / kg, depending on size of parts.

About 300 parts, give or take, 2-component epoxy paint, this is version 5 of the mill.
Took about 15 years, and 14.000 work hours, including learning to weld, build machines, program gcode, everything.

And buying and refitting 2 lathes, a 7x toy and a 12x industrial lathe, re-fit 3-times, with cslabs control and a toolchanger (2 toolchangers), and linear guides 25mm hiwin refit.
32 mm ballscrews, 2.5 kW c axis aka spindle with c axis rotation and positioning.
The toolchanger (flat 4 rotary) has an issue atm, and the second servo toolchanger, vertical, may be too heavy at 70 kg.

During that time I did some commercial work, like running the haas hfo here in spain. (And it stuff, commercial stuff).
Got lots and lots of excellent custom training from haas.
And endless learning from haas, hitec, and the == 200 commercial machine shops I visited here in spain, in mexico, in sweden, in finland, and the other 20+ hfos in europe I met.

Libra is a german sheperd, pedigreed, the first puppy I ever got, after 45 years between dogs (had 3 as a kid).

Slept near her for 6 weeks when she came here, worked with pro dog trainers for 6 months -
several hundred hours of training.
she is very social, loves people and kids and dogs, and has never bitten anyone.
But a wolf, basically.

Extremely smart, loves to learn things and do stuff, -- typical german shepherd.
They are very easy to train, but demand a good boss and consistency.

My wife who never had dogs and was quite negative fell in love in 15 minutes, my daughter of 10 loves her to bits.
Daughter takes her to the wilderness reserve, often, on their own.
Best thing I ever did, according to my lovely wife.

I'm pleased that you've got the picture problem sussed.

At one time you used to be able to host on Google Drive but Google put a stop to it. I just tried again and it doesn't work.

I don't know if it works with OneDrive.

There must be an alternative to Photobucket.

That is a little bit more substantial than my mill! Wow!

I have a 250 kg air cylinder on each end.
It results in about 100-200 kgf net mass downwards.
Table is about 600 kg in mass, using 35 mm hiwin linear rails, and 20 mm thick tool steel flats of 200 mm height on x axis bridge of 220 cm width.
The portals are reinforced 400x250 mm towers, 20 mm thick tool steel, 10 mm skin on the wider sides.
About 1600 mm tall.
Around 150 6 mm shcs each on 120 mm centers, nearish, for the skins, each portal.

The new screw I plan for is a 40-05 mm screw with double ballnut, hopefully.
1 kW 220V AC servo, 4 Nm cont. 12 Nm peak iirc.

There is endless, endless, commercial work for large(ish), low-precision items of medium-high value.
Things like jetski impellers, boat props, flat cut steel stock, etc. etc.
Plan is to start commercial ops in low-volume items like that.

No molds, no high precision stuff, nothing that clients will measure with a micrometer or 3d devices.

If and or when the commercial stuff starts selling, I can get longer screws, ground screws, etc.

ATM the x screw is 1200 mm long, on a 1600 mm bed. 3205, tbi. For example.
So I can fit large workpieces, but only have about 600 mm movement available.

Cheaped out on the screws, not brave enough at the time to put all that money into it.
Itīs a minimax of what one can afford, one can build, time, space.

Now I have a beautiful real (commercial registry) shop, 200 sqm, with seaviews for both the mill and lathe, in my house lower floor.
