Stand for lathe tools

With the forced rebuilding of my workshop due to change of home and county, I thought some reorganisation was in order to locate all the lathe 'stuff' in one place. In the old workshop there was a small shelf above the lathe and the rest was scattered across a long worktop.
I have not seen one to this design before and thought it may be use to others.
It was made from 1" box section and 25x25x3mm angle with water-resist mdf for the shelves. The mitred shelf angle irons were tacked together to form the shelf supports and the whole lot tacked together. First attempt was disastrous, so detacked with the angle grinder and redone. I would like to say it's all square in the vertical plane but there is about 3mm of twist in it.

Shelves fitted. Hoping the the couple of mm will stop any tools rolling off.

That's the reason we moved here. With a bit of luck, the models will be properly unpacked and flown, instead of just gathering dust and rust.

Wheels fitted and shelves starting to get loaded up. One thing that is particularly useful is having the 'normal use' drills on the top shelf, right under my nose. With varifocals that's very handy to just look down and have them there.

Nice work. I'd put those heavy chucks at center height, cut down the strain on the back.

Thanks for the kind comments.
I did ponder on which shelf to put the chucks, but went for the bottom one to concentrate the weight there. Having made the stand mobile, the last thing I wanted was for it to have any tendency to tip over.
As I get more aged, the chucks may well migrate to a higher shelf though.

Hi Spurry,
       I notice that on your very good tool stand your quick change tool holders are breeding rather rapidly as seems to be their wont. 

      I don't as yet have a QCTP but it is on the wish list (actually the to make list) and their breeding habits are of concern as my workshop is on the minuscule side.

John B - yes the toolholders do tend to multiply alarmingly. I find it easier to make say 6 at a time, as the setup time is considerable, so you may as well make 6 as 1.

Ah yes, that makes sense, plus you then have some already waiting for that special tool or whatever. Friends who have CNC lathes say the much same, i.e. drawing / set-up time being usually greater than the machine time may as well make two instead of one, or three or four whilst one enjoys a  or two!

It certainly is a nice robust stand. I am also going down the 'put wheels under everything' route.

I do have one observation though.  I would have made the rear vertical.

It seems you are losing valuable shelf space by sloping it in .

A long time back I acquired a lot of overhead conveyor rollers. These are gradually taking on a new life as wheels for things like my circular saw.  Much better than lifting it about.

Making the 'rear' vertical was considered. It ended up as-is so that I could have two 'fronts'. The bottom shelf is 600 wide x 600 deep, so I felt reaching right underneath, from one side, could be a problem, hence the reason for the double taper.
It may well be that with the passage of time, the extra space may have been more useful than the access aspect....so who knows.
The wheels apparently will load up to 600kgs, are easy to push, all rotate (in the vertical plane ) so the unit spins quite easily.
