Sanford SG-48 miniature surface grinder

Hi all,

I recently picked up a Sanford SG-48.  It is a tiny benchtop surface grinder.  Today I got a 60 grit standard grey aluminum oxide wheel for it and got to play with it.  The wheel is 4" diameter and 1/2" width with a 1/2" bore.

It has a custom "chip" guard and a permanent magnet chuck.  When original they were equipped with an electromagnetic chuck.

That's the first time I've heard of these small surface grinders. I'd love to have one. Out of curiousity I did some Googleing about them. You may or may not already know this. In 1996 the base price for your SG was $6160.00. They must be a very well made surface grinder.

Its a cute and very nice machine, just like its big brothers. These machines sell for $800-$1000 on fleabay when ever they come up.  I had been on the lookout for one of these for a while.   Approximately 4 years ago I came across one but it was not for sell.  I was there to see a lathe and spotted the little grinder in the back of the guys shop.  I offered $400 and he declined it.  A couple of years later I get lucky and find another, this time I was able to bring it home at a bargain    Keep tour eyes open,
