Title: Meet the neighbours

Living at anchor is great. You get all sorts of critters that get used to one being there come up for a chat.

I will trade you neighbors. Mine likes going through my trash. Well, destroy my trash can and eat the trash.

Damn bears.

Well, I hope I won't see the last type here... But apparently there has been a raccoon found dead approx. 200 miles south of me...

You have bears down there, Eric?

Yeah Steve we do. Big bear population. Saw one a few days back. One went through my garbage the other day.

OFC, where I live (even though it is in NJ) is very rural. I am in the mountains, no neighbors etc... Reminds me of New England (home).

Eric, I just missed bumping into one rounding the corner of the house a couple years ago. I'd come back in the house from the shed out back to plug in an extension cord. Was headed back out when my wife saw the bear round the corner out of the kitchen window. If I'd been about 20 seconds faster we'd have definitely run into each other at that corner.

I know you're not supposed to look them in the eye if they're near, and you're not supposed to yell, but there's kind of a limit to presence of mind in those circumstances!

My favorite video on what to do in case of bear encounter is here:
