Title: My take on 4 X 6 band saw modifications
Post by: CallMeAl on April 10, 2014, 01:29:24 AM
Here is short video of modifications and improvements I have made over the years to my horizontal band saw. Most were gleaned from various places on the net. The changes have made the saw I bought 15+ years ago that was barely adequate into a very functional tool that is pleasure to use.  I have posted this on another site, but I figured I would post it here also in case some of these might be found useful.

Hi Al, Well you do say to call you Al right?  Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching. If only I had a saw to modify  Alas tiny shop and matching budget puts this on my wish list, later, maybe, perhaps, one day. (sigh) Looks like you did make it a very  useful tool. Thanks again

Hi Al,

Many thanks for posting the video - more jobs to add to my "To Do" list!

Cheers.

Phil.

Al, would you mind showing some more detail on the clamping shelf, and the t-handle clamp bolt for the small vise jaw? I would like to add those two to my saw.

Thanks for that, Al.

You've increased the size of my roundtoit list :hammer:

Seriously, some clever mods most if not all of which will
happen here over time.

Cheers, Joe

Hello Al.
I like it.  Most especially the mounting of a pan to catch the swarf.  Might clone that one.

Also liked is the idea of the modifications to the vise and the area around it.  The cut slot that accepts a mill clamp looks like a great idea.

Question regarding the mounting of the table.  How many points of attachment did you provide it?  I see you dropped the two bolt holes behind the saw blade, so are you using only the single attachment bolt on the support arm or are there other bolt points not visible from above?

superc, If you look really closely I think the milling clamp is fixed through a threaded hole rather than a cut slot.

I had to look very closely because of the camera angle but I don't think it is bolted through the slot.

Al,there are some neat mods you have done there and I will be likely to follow your series of threaded holes to clamp small and awkward workpieces......OZ.

Made the 'T'-handle clamp this morning. Looking to make the clamping shelf next! Thanks Al, for sharing your mods!

Great set of mods, Al! All very handy!

The table, made to fit the saw both in vertical and horizontal position, is something I would like to do on my own saw. I also like the use of mill hold down clamps for oddly shaped bits. Very clever!  Thanks for sharing!

Nice mod's you could even use cutting fluid if there was a drain in the chip pan.

Hi guys:

Just did the vise jaw extension plates with the jacking screw; used it, love it!

Thanks, Al
