Hi Guys
I wanted a fine adjustment facility for my taper turning attachment, and scanned the internet for ideas and discovered there was very little information and even less detail. I came up with a design and made it in wood just to prove it would work, and avoid damaging all the work I had already completed. see pic 1. Satisfied with the functioning of the device, I built a micrometer version which gave me 1 thou per division, and fitted it to the underside of the attachment. see pic 2. A requirement of the design was to make the mechanism free from the ingress of swarf. see pic 3&4. The top view shows the position of the adjuster and slide locking arrangements see pic 5. Detail of the adjuster see pic 6&7. The angular divisions are detailed in pic 8 but the centering register has not yet been engraved.
Setting up the attachment and cutting a taper to be continued.
Cheers David

I thought it looked like my.Holbrook's taper.attachment when you showed the patterns.... The adjustment mech' is close to identical, too :)
The index plate for the angle scale could use a vernier, or.with.a bit of jommetry a turn of the knob could give a nice calibrated increment -the Monarch taper adapter has a sector 'worm wheel' on the end of the taper guide and the adjusting knob rotates the worm - very posh!

Hi Dave
I have been looking at Holbrook Lathes on Lathes.co.uk. Is yours the C8 if so I agree my TTA looks very similar. Has yours got the taper per foot markings.
Cheers David

Excuse really late reply, house move fell through so I've been temporarily staying with family, no internet out in the sticks....
My Holbrook"s the C13, looks a lot like the C8 Electronic, scaled up a bit, the TTA has an calibrated adjuster and scales at each end of the guide (Sine?) bar, taper per foot one end, degrees/minutes the other, but I still like to check with a reference (e.g. a bought taper between centres) or a DTI/DI on the toolpost and the Trav-A-Dial

Hi Dave, I do exactly the same, set up the taper angle using the fine adjustment, then check with a master ground taper between centers. Then use the D.T.I traversed along the taper to double check. This follows my normal routine of measure twice cut once.
