Title: Flea market finds 3
Post by: Chuck in E. TN on July 30, 2013, 12:38:46 PM
Had a good day at the local flea market. Picked up an old JT Slocomb 2-3”  outside micrometer. Can anyone provide model # or any other info?
Pics here: http://s571.photobucket.com/user/chucketn/media/JT%20Slocomb%20mic/642dc99b-364d-4a41-b1b7-e9ac7f5cb6d7_zps58f3f44f.jpg.html (http://s571.photobucket.com/user/chucketn/media/JT%20Slocomb%20mic/642dc99b-364d-4a41-b1b7-e9ac7f5cb6d7_zps58f3f44f.jpg.html)
The one I have looks like the one in the middle.
I did find a scan of some other Slocomb mikes but not this one.  Does anyone have the original users manual for this style? What is the knurled knob on the end of the barrel for?
Anyone have the spanner for adjustment that could give me the dimensions? Are these spanners available or can I make one?

What is the knurled knob on the end of the barrel for?

If they are as mine CE Johansson one's, it's a friction/rachet device to make sure you don't over-tighten the barrel.... I think most European one's has this feature (as well as the Japanese and the Asian copies)
