I like to stop in at the local pawn shops every few weeks and check out what they have for sale. I usually leave empty handed, but sometimes I find a good deal. Last year I found a 3 1/2" six cutter face mill with a R-8 taper for $30.00! The carbides were in good shape too.
Today found a 12" Starrett machinist level for $69.00! Even better yet I talked them down to $50.00!
I wanted to buy a machinist level for some time now and am glad that I ran into this deal.

Now that is a find! I don't know the going rate where you live, but here I have seen them (not Chinese) go for $100+. And that's when the seller has had no clue or didn't find/see the brand name...
Lucky you!

G'Day Fellas,
My best pawn shop find was a mint condition Mizoguchi MU4 boring and facing head complete with all accessories for $125.00.
