Interesting way to make cores. Where did you get the sodium Silicate?

Could you just enclose the cores in a plastic bag with an open jar of seltzer water to cure them?

Or maybe some bicarbonate of soda in water and add a little vinegar?

Another fascinating video.

I remember sodium silicate or "waterglass" from my childhood when it was used for preserving eggs and making "chemical gardens", but had no idea that it reacted with carbon dioxide in this way. If I remember correctly John, I was using 4% sodium silicate by weight - not done it in the last 6 years as my foundry stuff is still not unpacked, but I do have two drums each of 25 litres of the stuff!
