There are many occasions when folk have posted about resizing images.....
If you go to the Windows website and download the image resizing tool it will assist in resolving in this issue.....http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/xp-downloads#2TC=powertoys

I don't think the Microsoft Powertoys resizer will work in anything but XP.
For some years I've used free software called VSO Image Resizer with Vista and it has worked perfectly.
It's now available as Light Image Resizer and it works with everything from XP to Windows 8.

I just use MS Paint, selecting the whole image and using the Image>Stretch tool to reduce what I've grabbed off my camera to about 60%, which seems about right. I can't seem to get the hang of PhotoBucket's re-sizer

Ms paint stretch is about the clumsiest tool you could imagine for re-sizing, and the file sizes aren't great either. XP powertoys does work on some other windows systems but later versions have it built-in anyway. It really is very good for doing batches. I was running out of disk space on my works laptop and realised that I had thousands of 4000x3000 images taking up a lot of room. I re-sized the lot to 1024x768 changing the filesize from 4.5MB to around 150K and freed up about 8GB of space.

MTPaint is free for downloading, and works on both Microsoft and Linux OS's.

How hard is it?
To resize an image, open the image, Click Image>Scale Canvas, and enter 640. if you want it 640 pixels wide).
Then save the image.
Done.
Want to crop it first?
Before scaling just place the cursor on one corner of what you want, hold down the mouse button and stretch to the other corner.
Then click Image>Crop.
Then scale.
Done.

I use paint.net free and very easy to use.

I know it's clunky and you can only do one pic at a time, though for the odd photo it's quite quick once you get into it and the results are good enough for me. I'm a reluctant photographer who generally never looks at old photos. I can't be bothered downloading and learning software I'll only use once in a while.

Right-click - resize image.
Nothing to learn.

I use Irfanview as my standard image viewer.
It handles more image formats but it also allows you to resize and convert to other formats.
Totally free of course.

Ralph I wasnt intending to berate your efforts, merely to point out to folk who have had issues with the size of their photos...Maybe a quick way out using Microsoft's offering...

Another vote for FastStone photo re-size here; not only does it batch resize, it also applies a watermark & renames into sequences at the same time.
What's not to love?
It'll to a pile of other stuff as well, but I've never needed any more than those three functions.

Only ribbin' ya John :poke:
:)
As Ade said, it's a great little package and took me about an hour to get my head round.... Use it on all my pic's now
Anything that saves site storage space and makes it easier to view on standard threads is a good thing :nrocks:

Hi folks,
Like philf, I use the VSO Light Image Resizer, it always works very well, setting up is simplicity itself.

Like David I use FastStone and find it simple to use and lets you do multiple resizes as well. You can find the link to the free program in the Gallery forum complete with help to set up from Divided head
