Hi,
Just joined the forum. I only started model engineering about a year ago and joined the Model Engineer Magazine forum. Next bit is copied straight from my profile on there.
"First played around with my dad's lathe in my teens. This was a Drummond of about 1908 vintage. Then did an engineering apprenticeship. Then a few years later I was made redundant. Then a period of thirty years elapsed when I did virtually no engineering apart from DIY and car maintenance. I've retained a passing interest in things mechanical since with visits to industrial heritage sites, preserved railways and the odd steam rally. Then at the end of 2011 I regained an interest in model engineering and bought a mini-lathe. First project was a simple oscillating engine like the one described on Steve's Workshop. Now onto next project which is a Stuart S50."
Anyway, as I was building my first little engine with lots of useful help from the members of that forum I started looking around for other forums to read especially as I'm interested in home workshop stuff generally. This one seemed popular and had lots of interesting topics and also I recognised some of the contributors from the ME forum. So here I am. Don't know much at the moment but I'm a keen learner and usually say too much rather than not enough. Oh, and I've just bought myself a milling machine but need to make a bench for it before I can try it. Very impressed with Ilia's electric chopper project.
