Hi Guys
Broke the vice while holding the steady casting. I desperately needed to keep the saw functional so used one of a pair of angle plates as a temporary repair. The other angle plate I filled with candle wax, and added two pieces of hardboard one to each face, for the machining allowance. This was used as a pattern, and was moulded in the normal position with one flat face horizontal. When splitting the flask the sand collapsed, and on inspection realized there was not enough taper when moulded in that position. I changed pattern position to a ' V ' the mould tuned out well. Poured the aluminium and behold another successful casting.
Metal casting is like a drug.

Fixing machines is fun.

Nice fix David
Are you sure you did not just break the vice jaw on purpose to give yourself an excuse to cast something

One day I will be able to cast...
Between you, Rob and John... All making me jealous! :nrocks:

:update: Had a good day machining yesterday, fly cuttings allover the workshop. The new cutter is great and is producing a fine finish. The 50/50 soft aluminium to die cast scrap makes the casting much stiffer, and machines well.
KR Why not give it a whirl? MYFORDBOY has lots of tutorials on U TUBE
Rob, I did not break my vice on purpose, however if I had known what a great improvement the mod has made, I am sure I would have.
Cheers David
