Yes,  when I lived in Berlin I spent a good half day there last year and could have spent longer.  Great and interesting place and strongly recommended.

Rob

What a hero you are ....
Scoffed no end of Weissewurst (??) in Stuttgart ..
Best ones were IIRC Thuringer Rostwurst { ?? ) 'kin HUGE things, think that's what  they were called.

The Germans do a nifty line in sausages, far better than most of the spineless rubbish here. You did stand a good chance of their stuff being made from protein rather than cereal .... blaaaah.

Just looked it up ... it's Thuringer Rostbratwurst ...

See how I look after you ... hope you're grateful ..

HI Lads , here are a few of the photos I took on my visit to the museum ,the museum is well worth a look if your ever in Berlin , having a wide section of exhibits and demonstrations .

Its easy to spot  the museum from a distance as its the only building with a Douglas C-47 Skytrain/Dakota suspended from the corner of the building . One of the aircraft used in the Berlin airlift

One of the first exhibits is of a working  engineering shop from the early 1900, complete with all the line shafts ,driven from a very fine example of a beam engine .

Another very fine beam engine , there are red boxes that are viable in a few of the photographs these are positioned next to an exhibit and give the time at witch the next demonstration will be given .So if there is something you have a particular interest in seeing its just a case of noting the time and wandering back to see the demonstration .

A few of the locos they have on display , one which  has been sectioned so you can see how things work.

Some of the 1/5 scale model locos and rolling stock , these were built to a very high standard .

The jewellery manufacturing shop was excellent  with chain making ,embossing ,drawing, rose engines and guilloche demonstrations ,the display cases showed a step by step processes of spin and lost wax castings , sadly no casting demonstration that day . Wile on the subject of ornamental work I was lucky enough to pick up a five volume set of Holtzapffes Turning and Mechanical Manipulation 1850 on my way back through London, nice addition to my library.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u410/RobWilson100/Berlin%20engineering%20museum/P1050664.jpg)(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u410/RobWilson100/Berlin%20engineering%20museum/P1050655.jpg)

Think i will make one of these engraving vice.

Now this was something else , whats hard to see due to the glass is the amount of rivets in this model of a boat lift , similar to the  Anderton Boat Lift here in the UK , This model was still under construction , but the chap did give me a quick demo .

AS well as sail boats they had a good selection of steam boat engines .

Above  is just a very small selection of what was on display ,some of the other displays were computing, chemistry, transport, brewery and windmills . They were doing some remodelling of the museum at the time of or visit  but this did not detract from or experience .

Some lovely machinery there........  :bugeye:

First workshop pic. Right hand side. Pedestal drill.......

That's "the one", I started operating in 1972. It was rather tired, by then........   :(

We finally got something (slightly) better, five years later!  (http://serve.mysmiley.net/rolleye/rolleye0014.gif) (http://www.mysmiley.net)
