Title: SCREW THREAD CLAMP
Post by: Meldonmech on August 21, 2012, 12:56:39 PM
Pic1 Top image shows a BSW screw clamp I made too many years ago, which has been in constant use ever since.
I recently needed to make some metric screws, so being between projects decided to make a metric version below.
Pic 2 Showing the scale.

Pic 3 Shows the clamp set up in the vice for sawing a screw to length.

Pic 4 Shows clamp set up for squaring and dressing off the screw end.

Pic 5 Shows screw head being slotted in the mill.

This is my first post so hope this is not too basic.

Excellent! So simple, but so useful. I'll have one made before bedtime.

And welcome to Madmodder. Why not put a post in Introductions, and tell us a bit more about your interests, which are bound to extend a bit further than chopping off screws and bolts.

Hi, I like the idea, it's very good but please don't take this bad, but try to send in some smaller picture. I have a very hard time to see youre pictere and I am shure that I could use a tool like that.  :smart:

Yes, you need to resize your photos.  They are too big.  That screw clamp is a very good item to have.  Thanks for showing it and Welcome to MadModder.

Good idea if your not too clever with a slit or hacksaw and it doesnt have to line up.

I have seen a developed version of this tool - which is great by the way.

Imagine that a number of saw cuts are made to a suitable depth for a screw driver slot across the plate. Then a punch mark is made to guide a drill right in the center of the slot thus guaranteing a screw driver slot always being on center on the head. The make a small countersink to a suitable depth  to make sure the scrwe slot will always have the same depth. The rest of the thing is as shown.

Hope you could follow my description

Meldonmech

I have taken the liberty of editing the photo's in your post to bring them down to a friendlier size to make it easier to view and download. Generally we try and not exceed 800x600 for landscape and 600x800 for portrait type photo's. This allows ample detail and allows them to be seen on 1 screen. I will get back to you with a link to instructions for working with and posting photo's and video's.

The Screw Thread Clamp is a very handy tool and everyone should have one in his toolbox or workbench. It sure beats trying to clamp a nut in the vise and trying to keep the screw from turning while cutting or filing it. Thanks for sharing it with us.

If you could go to http://madmodder.net/index.php/board,3.0.html and post an introduction on the board and tell us a bit about yourself and what your dreams and ambitions are, where you are from etc. it would be much appreciated by all. Have fun and we look forward to your participation in the forums.

Cheers
