Title: Identification help please

Hi Guys,

I have just moved house and I've acquired a couple of machines.  Unfortunately I've no use for them (read I've no idea how to use them).

I think one is a milling machine and the other a shaping machine, but wondered anyone knows exactly what models they are and how much they're worth?

Yup, you are right. First is a horizontal milling machine and the second is a shaper. Both desirable machines to have in the workshop.

From the looks of it you are across the big pond. If you were closer I'd be more than happy to take both off your hands for a fair price.   :)

Mill is Centec 2A, looks like there may be some bits missing / not shown.

Shaper is Alba 1A.

You should be able to find some genral information/pictures on www.lathes.co.uk

Hello mate

The shaper looks like its in good nick and you will have buyers it as for the price a little research on your local ebay will tell you what the market is paying, a little advice here on the shaper if that’s an original vise that come from Alba (I don’t know if they made them or not)  if you sell it with the vise ask a little more and sell as a package if not the vise is worth something too up to maybe one third of the price of the machine.

As to the mill its not complete your missing the head assembly and in my opinion de-values it as it means work to the guy that buys it has to allocate all missing parts.  You may want to look into breaking it up into parts and selling piece by piece. They made quite a few of these.

I'll have a root around and see if I can find any other bits that go with it.

I've managed to get the shaper up and running, but then managed to shear off the part that pulls the box along the horizontal thread  :doh:
