Any recommendations for a motor supplier for a new motor for my shaper?
The motor that came with it is a 1ph 1/4 horse and looks like a cap start..I'm assuming as its a B-C motor then the shaft dia is going to be imperial...Not that that is a problem...
So a 71 size motor should do fine if I can buy one at a reasonable price....
Machine Mart do one for around £80 but it looks pants........ :coffee:

Hi
John
I have had a couple of machine mart motors go pop on me
They will replace them under warranty
Better off with a used British motor

John,
Thanks for the heads up on the M-M motors, I'll steer clear... :zap:
Steamman, the motor that came with the shaper is 1/4 hp motor 240v..no idea of the frame size..
No idea what hp the shaper needs... :coffee:
I'm tempted to go large and use a 1/2 hp motor if I can get one in 71 frame size... :dremel:
Why 71? well I like that size its a nice compact motor and will accompany the shaper just nicely....... :D

Hi I do not know what the actual frame size or what size your shaper is ?without more info I cannot proceed further.

Simply go into Yellow pages and locate a firm who sells motors compatible with -say Myford Lathes which are usually 1/3rd HP 1440 capacitor start affairs. However, you have a 1/4 HP already and I would have thought that having checked by a competent re-wind firm, you should be OK and having paid only a small amount for that service.
My experience of suitable motors is the local Model Engineering Club and tossing a few coins into the tea or track fund box.
Almost all my HSS tooling was sourced from the above- and my contribution was happily accepted
I pay my annual sub of very little and get an extensive library and I expect that I am now competing to be one of the oldest members
