That is an interesting design for a shaper  Would like to see pictures when you get it home to your shop.  :nrocks:
I sure like my Logan 8" I picked up a while back, put it to work right away :)

There is nothing like having a shaper working away in the shop. I started with a Tom Senior hand shaper and now use a Royal.

Evening,

Im looking forward to seeing the photos.

Ive always thought a little 6" shaper would be a useful machine to have around.

Thats very like my Adept 2 power shaper!  It is my favourite shop machine and always gets a special wipe over with an oily rag.

BTW, it took me almost a year to learn just how to set the tool etc.

I fitted a power downfeed to mine as I found it impossible to get a consistent downfeed by manually turning the  handle and it only takes a tiny overfeed to cause a dig in and, probably, ruin the work.

It is just a simple ratchet and a flexible cable connected to the crank that drives the cross feed.

I realise it isnt a patch on the one you have Rob ( where's the green with envy emoticon?) but it will have to suffice...

I need a dedicated bench or stand for it before I can use it...So I'll have to try and organise some steel angle or summat... :dremel:

Shapers are brilliant machines.
Best use for them is to hold the floor down and stop it escaping until you can afford a decent machine to replace it.

Any chance we could see more details on that downfeed?

John

i am another shaper nut  :loco: my shop would not be my shop without it. Every time i have a new design thought my mind always drifts off how its going to be made on the shaper. you have a really nice little machine there sir, keep us informed on what projects you make on it.   Anthony

I wrote earlier that I  had the Ian Bradley book-- the Shaping Machine but gave it away.
There is a copy of the book on the NEMES-s.org site which gives the down feed on the Atlas.

There should be lots of other things as well.

Enjoy!
