Title: Getting some spare QC toolholders?
Post by: Pete. on December 30, 2011, 09:25:51 PM
I've got a BXA-type quick change toolpost and I need some extra toolholders for it (mine have 'CHINA - 250' on them). I can only find one place in the UK that sells spare toolholders (Warco) at £25 a pop and they only do the one type.

Does anyone know where else I can buy extra holders from? Better still, does anyone here have a hefty shaper they can knock out a couple of feet of dovetailed steel that I can cut my own holders from? I could do them with a dovetail cutter but it would really tax my little milling machine I think.

I can't help out myself, but when you mentioned a "hefty shaper", it made me think that a shop that makes or repairs press brake tooling would have such an animal.  The cost to make an 8' (or even longer) piece might be prohibitively high but when you consider how many pieces you would get out of it you might want to consider a side business!

Pete, try this seller. I don't know what the shipping to the UK would be but I am sure they will quote you. They have the best prices I have seen for the BXA tooling. I have a Phase II branded BXA tool post and the holders from CDCO are a perfect fit. I did change out the grub screws as the original ones had a poorly fitting socket. The allen wrench would sometimes slip.

Not sure if these are anything like my QC tooolholder that towards the end of last year everyone seemed to have for between £7 and £10 each, and yet now, no one has them and the only place I can find one on stock is to buy the entire thing again but for £45 + :(

ANyway, on mine, I rang a couple of places and they both said they expect stock again in January "at some point" so I have decided to hold off for a month or two and see if they do get stock in again. Like I said, not sure if this applies to yours or not, but as they all come from China, then I am guessing they are all likely yo be in the same shipment.

Daz.
I was surprised to find Chester had the small toolholders I needed.

I had been waiting for Warco to oblige, since the Harrogate show!  :bang: :bang:

Pete,
Is it this you are looking for?: http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Machines-Accessories/Lathe-Accessories/Tool-Posts
If you look on this page, you will see all the holders separately. The photos are a little bit blurred, but the standard 200 tool holder is stamped 250-XXX, CHINA
