Title: my waste oil fired home made foundry
Post by: norman on November 19, 2011, 11:45:34 PM
this is one of my first pours building the gingery shaper. Do not work with liquid metal on concrete. I had a problem getting the crucible out of the furnace but since then I've perfected getting it out.

the metal shaper cutting on a scrap of aluminum

this is my first home made speed reducer for the G0602 lathe speed is around 58 rpm. I've redesigned it to make it  easier to build so this one is not used anymore.

this is the second design of the speed reducer speed is now at 40 rpms I still haven't made any plans for it. You might notice the large home made pulley has a wobble to it. While I was machining it the set screw on the mandrel slipped and caused that to be off a bit, it doesn't hurt anything other than it looks bad.

Norman
With that little wobble it will make no difference because of the low speed. Now if it was turning 2500 rpm, now you have a problem. Real nice work on your Gingery Shaper, looks and sounds like you will have it for many years. When I built my shaper I wanted more so I altered everything to come up with a 8.25 stroke. I love to just sitting and watch it do all the work, and smooth. Keep the builds comming. :D  :) :D :)

I love that shaper too - an appropriate size - did you make it yourself ?

Great work Norman. I'd like to see some details of your waste oil burner. I like to see how others do it, might get an idea for an improvement to mine.
