Hi all,
Checking in from Northern California. I'm learning machining (manual and CNC) at De Anza College. I'm looking forward to building model engines. The first project is a simple oscillating steam engine (http://www.steves-workshop.co.uk/steammodels/simpleoscil/simpleoscil.htm) to be followed by a bar stock double acting horizontal then the Stuart 10V. My goal is to then move to IC engines. I have a set of castings from Cole Power Models for the Wall Water Witch but I'll start with a bar stock IC engine. I think the Nemett Ne15s might be the best place to start since there are several build threads.
I hope to be posting build pics and asking for advice soon!
Thanks,
Chapman

Thanks all!
I've printed the digital versions of the plans for the Nemett engine from Model Engineer. I think I'll still need to find hard copies because some of the prints are illegible both on-screen and printed.
The hunt is on!
Cheers,
Chapman

Hi all,
My little oscillating steam engine is almost complete. I need some fasteners and fix some screw-ups I made. It doesn't warrant a build thread, but I have a few pictures I took. The pics demonstrate the well-stocked shop we have at school (De Anza in northern California).
I'm attempting to post pics. The first shows the facing of the vertical brass frame using my favorite took, a Sandvik 2" shell mill. It leaves a beautiful finish on the brass and aluminum.
The second is the bearing insert in a collet chuck before drilling the mounting holes. Everything lined up well using the DRO rather than a rotary table.
The third picture is the semi-finished engine. I'll post a video once I have it running on compressed air.
I'm on to the next one today!
