Title: Copper Tube Bending
Post by: Bluechip on August 15, 2011, 03:42:33 PM
Hi Troops

Just sorting out my home brew tube bender.

Few tweaks to do, but ....

Is there any laid down info re: Tube OD; Tube SWG ( AWG ); and minimum bend radius ??

Pic is of 5/16" OD x 18 SWG annealed copper tube.

It is 0.310" OD measured and the tube bend is 'flattened' to 0.316".
This is with a bend radius of 0.687".
ie the "U" bit is a 1 3/8" half circle. Or, at least the middle of the tube is ...

All sorts of stuff re: boiler tube dimensions, WP etc. but nowt about bend radii acceptable ??

Any pointers from the boiler geezers ??

Hi Bernd

Thanks for the link ..

Some very interesting info. on there.

One bit seems to explain why my tube tends to 'creep' a small distance in the direction of the bend.
