Title: Is This Any Use To You
Post by: doubleboost on July 21, 2011, 04:37:41 PM
Hi
One of our regular customers came in to the garage today.
He had a stop light not working . I replaced the bulb for him, being a valued customer i told him it was free.
We had discussed machining and welding ect before . I think i have something you will like, he had a bit rumage in his boot then presented me with a digital vernia
I put a new battery in to it and was plesantly suprised that it read in fractions as well as the nomall metric / imperial
Just goes to show there are still some nice people around

About as much use at tits on a bull, not the gift or thought, that's fine but fractions?

So it's showing 17/ 128's what use is that? no one knows what that is in decimal without Old Moors Almanac.
Been in the trade 312 years as man and boy and never seen a machine dial yet marked in fractions.

Bloody gimmick just for wood butchers, dressmakers and the BBC.

Moreover, since it has to produce an integer numerator, it's resolution will never be more than the inverse of the denominator.  At 128, that's 0.008, good enough for working the brown stuff but not much use for metalworking.

Like John says, it's a gimmick meant to suck in the people who slept through math class.

I'd do it more frequently but what you say is so often wrong.   :)   :)
