Hi everyone ,
A long time lurker I finally decided to join up. My hobby machining has been going on for the last 3 to 4 years, a little on and off. I've been working with a D180 x 300 lathe as well as a Bf16 type mill, both from Optimum / Quantum, but there is a change going on at the moment. Still struggling uphill on my learning curve I've been mainly producing simple stuff like clamps and fixtures plus some tooling to support my HO scale model railway hobby, more is in the pipeline. Shop pictures I'll try to show later on.
What pushed me into joining was a recent thread in the Resources section, the topic being the new Sieg SX2 mill. Having received my own SX2 just one week ago I'm of course extremely interested in the topic and want to follow the discussion and maybe give my €.02 to it.
To me MadModder seems to be a very knowledgeable and friendly crowd of hobby machinists. I'm happy to find this resource of know-how and advice, maybe also contribute something later on.
Cheers,
Jouko

Hi Jouko  and welcome!
I think your lathe is the same as mine http://andysmachines.weebly.com/ , though yours is made in a German owned factory in China, rather than by a Chinese owned one.
I have learned a lot from the experts on here, and I'm sure you will learn a great deal too :nrocks:

Hi again ,
and thank you for the welcome!
j45on: nice shop, wish I had that much bench space!
andyf: yes, we certainly have the same type of lathe but who knows from which factory they come from, with all the cross sourcing going on?
PekkaNF: might take some time but let's keep on working!
spuddevans: should finally try my hand at an engine like yours. Running good?
Brass_Machine: pictures will follow as soon as I get the posting sorted out. BTW: great loco, I'm hooked on steam! Milwaukee Road?
Cheers

Hi
Welcome to the group
You must realise we like photos

Hi Jouko,
I think you may have it a little wrong, most, but not all, are machinists on here, we are just a collection of very friendly people, who are willing to share what they class as a hobby or even a living.
Even if it has nothing to do with machining, show us, we like anything out of the ordinary.

Hi doubleboost and Bogs,
thank you for the welcome. I'll keep in mind what you are saying about the pictures.
Bogs: machinists or not, I like what I'm reading here. Myself I think I might be more like a model railway guy than a machinist but who cares? I just like to tinker with tooling that could be purchased for less than what I'm sometimes paying for materials.
Cheers

That is exactly the way you should look at the site, just enjoy yourself.
