Title: Slitting saws

I’m looking for low cost slitting saw blades to use on my X2 mill. MSC is way too expensive at $150-$200 for a 2 ½” to 3” blade. LMS doesn’t seem to cary them. Where have you found an affordable slitting saw?

Chuck,

I bought a whole pile of slitting saws from an auction a little while back. Since the chances of me using all of them are virtually nil, I'd be quite happy to send you 2-3 FOC; they're all HSS & as soon as I find them (they're around here somewhere...) I'll tell you what thicknesses I have available.

PS: I can see one of them from here, but at ~6" diameter, I suspect it's a bit large for an X2!

I've used a 4 inch one  on my minimill with no issue...

Try Enco (use-enco.com). They carry the same brands as MSC but at much better prices. They have solid carbide at less than the MSC prices you listed.

For small jobs in aluminum or brass you might try this set from Harbor Freight. The thickness runs from .015" on the smallest to .035" on the largest. I scrapped the included arbor and made my own.

Joe, got a part # for the HF set? I have an HF near me and will check them out.

Hi Chuck,

Postage is on me... I'm sure it'll only be a few meagre quid; having recently lashed out over £250 on a welder (+ transport & sundries), £600 on a car this morning.... I'm sure a fiver postage will just disappear into the noise....

Hey Chuck, these are about as cheap & cheerful as one can find and they work great!  I got mine from my local Home Cheepo for a cordless trim saw.  It cuts aluminum and mild steel really nice.  The 3/4" straight shank arbor was made from scraps.
