I have been offered a set of Vertex micrometers by a local shop though they would have to get them in from another branch. (Just one of the things about living in a small town)
He tells me the micrometers are in a wooden box, thats good, but I cannot find much reference to Vertex micrometers on-line and no reference at all to them being sold in sets in wooden boxes. I can find Chinese sets in wooden boxes which are much cheaper and I would hate to find the "Vertex" set is just the same but quite a bit dearer.
Yes, I know the Chinese ones off line are no doubt 'good enough' but I hate buying things I cannot see first. :coffee:
Who knows anything about Vertex micrometers?

No one ever heard of Vertex micrometers!

Hmmmm, it seems that Vertex of Taiwan, makers of quality vices and such like, also (now?) make micrometers. Nothing to do now but wait until they hit town and I can take a close look at them. :coffee:

Hello John,
seems you are talking to yourself :)
Vertex make a nice RT, I didn't know they made micrometers.

John,
On a serious side  Vertex do make quality stuff. So if they have allowed their label to be put on they should be good.
Although someone may have put some cheapo Chinese mics in a Vertex box.

Hi Dave
You are in Durban, a big city if I understand correctly? I am in Ashburton, a country town with the nearest city, Christchurch, still recovering from a nasty earthquake.
In this town I can buy all manner of machines and potions for caring for sheep and cows, any type of irrigation system and tractors in any size from kids toys to ones I can stand beside and look up at the crankcase. But no shops carry things like micrometers!
We also have quite liberal customs and import regime which is good as we have a huge range of stuff available nowadays but the downside is that any man and his dog can get on his laptop and import whatever he likes to sell on line. For example I can buy an oil filter for a Mazda in a nice blue and white cardbox box, cheap too, but it is only when I look close that I see the name on the box is actually 'Mazdo'! So when the man in the local tool shop says he can get me 'Vertex' brand micrometers in a boxed set when the Vertex Taiwan web site does not show such things I naturally become a little cautious. :coffee:

Exactly what I am wary of Dave, also, Google 'Vertex' and there are dozens of companies using that name.

G'Day
I have a Vertex Edge Finder, it's a god awful piece of crap.

FWIW, I've just had a look at the Vertex International Catalogue. Vertex do not make Micrometers.

Hi Murray
Fox and Gunn of Pakuranga offer "Vertex" micrometers:-

......but notice the style of the logo.
There is not much to go on but the picture of the box looks better than most cheap sets, I hope I can judge them when I get to see them hopefully later this week.

Send an Email to Bob at techartATclear.net.nz (replace AT with @). He's in Auckland & will send you a genuine Vertex Catalogue on request.
Have a chat with him about pricing in NZ - you might be pleasantly surprised.
Murray.

Hi Murray
Thanks for the email contact, I sent an email to Bob and he is sending a Vertex catalogue, meanwhile the set that was ordered for me arrived in town and I checked it over as best I could and see that it has the genuine Taiwan Vertex logo, so I am quite relaxed about them now and started to use them today.

Well..... the catalogue arrived today and it shows very different micrometers indeed, (they are there Murray, on page B59). A couple of messages back and forth with Bob and it is pretty clear these ones are fake branded! Fortunately I had not done anything more than unwrapped one so I took them back and got a refund, I bought a LiMiT 25mm one to get me by until I hear from Bob what he would charge me for a set, even if I dont get them in wooden box!
Thanks for the help on this Murray.
