Title: Dos problem
Post by: DaveH on April 13, 2011, 03:33:48 PM
Hello,

I sometimes have problems with my computer, or the programmes, my son tends to come and fix it.

He says just a Dos problem, - meaning "Daft Ol' Sod" - meaning ME! :D :D :D

I wish I knew how to use a slide rule.  :bang: Seems to be a pretty useful skill to retain.

When I was a tech, the other guys used this error too... PEBKAC.

Problem
Exists
Between
Keyboard
And
Chair

These aren't directed at you BTW... Though I was thinking them when dealing with the ISP tech support!!

Most common problem I've found with computers has to be 'RTFM failiure'.

You got that one right. That used to be my favorite response to certain people that were too lazy to pick up the the book they had beside them and read.

Cheers

Most people have heard of hardware (the physical machine and its components) and software (the programs that run on the hardware). A few will have also heard of firmware (usually low-level software which makes hardware work).

On the other side of the keyboard, sits the wetware - the usually carbon-based 97%-H2O life-form who instructs the computer... So, if you ever hear that the problem is with the wetware, you'll know what the tech is talking about...

The user (also "luser" pronounced "loser" - from the bearded world of Unix) may also be referred to as the nut behind the keyboard.

When I was a kid my grandfather told me the most dangerous part of any car was the nut holding the steering wheel.
