Title: Big table for the X2
Post by: Sorekiwi on March 14, 2011, 10:04:07 PM
Stumbled across this at the Yahoo minimill group.

LittleMachineShop (in the US) now has a large table for the X2 mini-mill.
http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3677&category=-269978449
According to their ad, there is 30% more travel in X and Y, and 50% more table area.

According to guys who have taken delivery, it is a bit stiffer than the original, and the X axis leadscrew is supported at both ends.  A little more meat in the base where the column mounts as well.  Another thing I notice from the picture is a slot along the front face of the table to allow for stops.

For $300 it seems like it might be a good upgrade.  I wonder if any of the UK suppliers are able to get one?

More travel in the Y direction would be nice. I dunno though... for 300 bucks coupled with $150 for belt drive, another $50 for air lift and we're getting close to the price of an X3.

The larger table is fitted to the latest Chester Conquest...           http://www.chesteruk.net/store/conquest_mill.htm

Just finished the R8 spindle/ roller bearings/ belt drive swap, yesterday.

That's the Z axis commissioned ok.......

Will explore the larger X and Y axese as weather, and health allow......  ::)

Yes, thats true.  And I would love to have an X3.  But I already have an X2, with a belt drive and an air spring, and there is no way I can afford an X3 right now.

As for the gas spring, I bought one from McMaster-Carr.  I think it cost around $15.

Understood. I know it is all a question of timing.

The Warco minimill has the larger table, too.  Handles at both ends mean double support for the x-axis screw - also give somewhere to attach a motor for power feed or CNC.
