so i saw the ben thresher documentary and fell in love with the idea of a line shaft shop. Is there any way you guys could give me websites to get info on their construction techniques? I really have no idea where to start or who to talk to.

Well, I'm still plugging away at mine. Kind of. More research that anything. Life seems to get in the way of shop time. I've decided to make my own belts. They will be laced, not using the metal clips. I've read that the new belts should be stretched before use. They need to be cut square before they are laced together. The skin/smooth side should run against the pulley. Properly maintained belts should be ran dry. I don't think there is any magic or Voo-Doo To making these work. We'll see. I've read of fellows that have over fifty years on a single belt. There are some good videos on You tube. I've noticed in some of the videos there are some loose leather "washers" that travel back and forth on the line. After lots of searching I decided that these are used to clean/polish the shaft. That will make it easy to service.
