Title: Quick and easy presants for wife
Post by: Mike Cole on December 11, 2010, 10:35:17 AM
Hi all this is my first try at posting a picture, so please bear with me if I have to have a couple of goes.

These are a couple of easy builds suitable for Christmas presents /socking filling for wife/mistress. The first one is a necklace holder. Just use what bits you have in workshop. Consists of brass base with post around 10 inches high. Three horizontal 'sticks' of slightly thinner diameter at top. I used Hex bar as this is what I had. Silver solder togetter and polish.
The second one is a cotton wool pad holder. I had a length of ali tube just the right dia for the cotton pads that my wife uses( makeup removal). Again something around 10 inchs high. Put a wide slot all the way down one side about 0.5 wide. I then parted off a slice of ali bar around 3 inches dia to provide a base. I mounted on the rotary table to mill a grove for the tube to sit in. Hot glue to fix tube to base. Clean and polish.

Well, who's after some brownie points Mike?  :)

It's always good to prove your machines and time spent in the workshop have practical applications  :dremel:

I don't have that issue.  But I do see their score earning potential

Always good to share those little gift ideas

I like both ideas. I made my wife a jewelry stand a few years ago... out of wood though when I thought I could work with it. I will redo it in brass! Thanks for the ideas.

Well done! Two very useful items there Mike!

It's a good idea to occasionally prove, you're not always, "playing in there"......

The necklace stand  I  nicked the design. on mine the base could do with being just a bit bigger.I would say about 2" would be fine.  I did these last year trying to think of something else for this year.

brownie points always help

trying to think of something else for this year.

While doing dishes my daughter would lay her (diamond) engagement and wedding rings on the counter where an absent-minded swipe could send them hurtling into the disposal.  I made her a small cylindrical container of acrylic with a turned brass foot and faceted brass top.  It was a big hit and she uses it to this day.

That is a great idea too.
