Hello all
Just found the (extremely interesting!!) forum
I love machines and always have done though i have too many and can't get into my garage for them :bang:
My interests involve- collecting (and maintaining) airguns and have around fifty four in the collection, guitars, bonsai, in fact i'm interested in all sorts!!
I have three metal cutting lathes, one woodworking lathe, various grinders, buffers, linishers etc but i also have an MG midget in there that i'm slowly restoring so it's a struggle to do owt in there...
I work in a heavy foundry where, years ago we only had a foreman that worked on dayshift so when we were on afternoons we used to make all sorts!!, cannons, ash trays etc in brass and aluminium.
Anyhow, i'll shut up before i bore everyone to sleep ::)
Cheers, John

Hiya John!
Welcome to the collective :borg:
Midgets are very cool.
Sounds like you have a well equipped shop to do lots. Bonsai? As in mini trees? That is an art all unto itself. As usual, we need pictures!

Thanks for the welcomes lads
Eric, here's a couple of my trees..
Acer palmatum 'Seigen' in it's spring colours, it's a bit taller than the pic (too tall!), it will be reduced to what you see next spring..

Japanese white pine, only partially wired into shape..

Zelkova (Japanese elm), this needs reducing in height too (out of proportion with the dish)

It was a bit chilly last winter!!

Cracking John
How old are they ?
Is the the small pot that stunts the growth of the tree

Them's some beautiful trees! Serious tree modding right there.

Yes
It's restricting the root growth that keeps them small..
Every few years (depending on the species) they will be repotted and the roots trimmed by one third to one half depending on how much they've filled the pot..
I have a California Redwood that is about ten years old, they grow to be the biggest trees in the world yet mine is only about fifteen inches tall
I'm not too sure how old they are as i bought most of them with unknown history but most of them i've had for around ten years..
I forgot to mention my other hobby, my little machines (watches), been collecting them for around thirty six years and have around two thousand in total (i think treatment may be needed :loco: )
