Title: Industrial Workers Office
Post by: sbwhart on October 27, 2010, 05:10:46 AM
Just bin cold called by a group calling themselves Industrial Workers Office, they told me as I had worked in heavy industry I was due compensation due to hearing loss as I had started work before legislation came in, similar to compensation that miners got for white finger (and we all know how the lawyers  screwed the miners on that one). I asked how they new I'd worked in industry who they were if they were a government office etc, they only gave vague answers to my ?.

They said they would call me back.

Have any of you UK guys had similar approaches.

Did a google search on them and came up with this.

http://www.thestirrer.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8643&start=0

It describes exactly the approach that was made to me.

I think its some sort of scam.

I had the same call about 30 mins ago Stew.

Unfortunately I took a different route.

I told him where to stick his phone and then hung up.

I got one from a young lady telling me I could sue my employer if I'd had an accident at work.
in no uncertain terms I told her I WAS the employer and asked he why she could not get a reputable job like a prostitute, at least they have some respect..............

We used to get calls here in the States... "important information about your auto warranty..." trying to sell an extended warranty. A co worker used to get the call 2 or 3 times a day at his desk and cell!

"Sorry but this telephone does not accept caller withheld numbers " and hang up

Since I have been doing it the calls have dropped off.

Since moving my w/e and eve calls back to BT, calls  have dropped off dramatically ( BT use a TPS to screen calls)

My evenings are so quiet now with no interruptions while I surf madmodder... :D  as Tony the Tiger sez...." its grrrreat)

Yup, remember those calls. I finally asked them if they could extend the warranty on my 1985 Lombirgini. They said they couldn't because it was was to old. Everytime there after I changed the vehicles but always a high priced car. I figured what the heck, it's their dime.

I love calls like that. I try to keep them on the line as long as possible. It wastes their time. I actually got one of them to hang up on me.  :ddb:

Nice one Powder Keg! Last time a seller called me i whispered until I was sure that he had set his head set on maximum volume, then I screamed as loud as I could, to never call me again. Haven't had any sellers call me in over a year

Ten years ago, almost to the day, the hospital failed to contact me directly in their efforts to offer me the long awaited slot for my heart bypass operation.

We had just about had it with "number withheld" and nuisance calls and had the telephone company block all such calls. They were able to contact my son's number so my daughter-in-law  got in touch with me.

I am understandably very grateful for the NHS (I'm still here 10 years on) but it is galling to find they withhold their number when making contact with patients. It is still the case.

So there is the real danger posed by these nuisance cold calls.

To the people of this forum;

I am a 17 year old former employee of the people calling you. The company you are receiving these phone calls is called Central Claims Group.

I'm a new user so I can't post links, apologies.

Here is how to find the website; google Central Claims Group, and it will be the top website.

I'm not here to defend this company, in fact I despise them for what they're encouraging, and just for general poor customer and employee care.

I will emphasise however, that this isn't a scam. They are just cold calling random people, using numbers from the phone book, and trying to persuade any poor soul unlucky enough to admitting to working in a noisy environment into going down to a hearing test and then going on to claim compensation from their former employers for Industrial Deafness.

They are breaking several laws/legislation, as technically if you tell the company you are not interested, they are not allowed to ring you for at least 28 days. Many people receive 28 phonecalls in 7 days. They are also not complying to any sort of Telephone Preference Service regulation. Lastly they are grossly mis-selling the services they offer. They often tell the recipient of the call that legislation regarding Industrial Deafness has "recently changed." Bulls**t.

Long story short, these people harass, push up insurance premiums, and are also a burden on what little industry and manufacturing remain in our country.

I urge anyone who is sick of these calls to take the following measures;

Make sure you deregister your number from the phonebook.
Sign up to the Telephone Preference Service
And complain by the procedure listed here:
ioc . gov. uk //complaints/privacy_and_electronic_communications. aspx
(Just remove the spaces)

The contact information for the company:

Central Claims Group
Warth Business Centre
Suite 224
Warth Road
Bury
Lancashire
BL9 9NB

or...

Tel 0161 7630052
Fax 0161 7630065

Do feel free to return the harassment.
Kilburn.
