Screwfix seem to be clearing out their stock of plunger-type clocks - see

If you click on "gauges" under the pic, they are knocking out their mag mounts for a fiver, too. I bought a couple of the clocks myself. No manufacturer's name, so doubtless of Asian origin, and I don't mean Mitutoyo. The backs and mounting lugs are some kind of hard plastic. Seem to work OK, though. Not available over the counter - order on the web or by 'phone.

Yes, thanks for the heads up.

I got two myself, Roy, with the same idea. In fact, when I look at John Bogs's two-dial tramming device, his gauges look very like the Screwfix ones, grey plastic backs and all.

I ordered two - magnetic base gauge holders. At £5 each very good value and seem to be good quality too. Upright is 12mm cross piece is 10mm. Not sure how much use the bendy bit on the cross bar is going to be.
What I could have done with is a DTI rather than a dial gauge. My 'good' one suffered from a drop which broke the pointy end. I bodged it up but its deffo seen better days.
Be aware of the £5 carriage when ordering.
