Title: Options to light your mill...

Found this while perusing a DIY camera site.

At only a few $$ and an assortment of different sizes, this seams to be a good starting point for a light around the spindle!

Another option worth investigating is lights designed for microscopes.

This is mine (fluorescent).  Not as trendy a the new LED units, but it was cheap and works great.

I tried the LED route and it just didn't work out s hoped. I finally went with the florescent set up, much like yours and found I prefer the light it produces.

watch out for the strobe effect with that lamp

LED will not strobe nor will a filament lamp

I've had strobe effects with LEDs, due to unsmoothed DC from a wall wart transformer. A 470 uF capacitor across the transformer output cured it.

Found this while perusing a DIY camera site.

I'm using a couple of those for my light. One was DOA (they replaced no problem) and one gives out a blue tint instead of a bright white light. Other than that--they work OK. Powered with a 12v laptop power supply.
