Title: Power hacksaw.
Post by: BK on April 29, 2010, 03:52:52 AM

Ya, I know they are outdated, it's all bandsaws, cut-off saws, lasers etc. now, but I'm not getting rid of my old saw.
It now has an electric motor on it and 2 v belts, it used to drive off a flat belt, it weighs a ton(it's heavy).
It's modern in one way, it cuts off the drive when the jobs done.
Today I put it to work to cut this piece of 3" shaft.

I kept doing other things while it was cutting, I did put a couple of drops of tap magic on it twice.
After 25 mins it was through, I didn't lose any sweat, the metal wasn't subjected to excess heat, and , it cuts square!!

I did a bit of machining on it, threw it back in the saw, and got this.

Not bad for a saw that is at least 80 years old!! :D

Nuthin wrong with an old power hacksaw.  Blades are still easy to get.

I use the worn out blades to make tools for removing spring loaded household blinds.
