Title: Hi from sunny Switzerland.
Post by: calypso on April 20, 2010, 09:49:34 AM
I feel a bit of an imposter posting on this forum.

Although I have always loved engines, especially miniature ones, I do not own a lathe and I certainly don't have the skills to use one if I did.

My only saving grace is that I do collect small steam engines, mostly German, some dating back to the early 20th century http://www.youtube.com/user/calypso22 (http://www.youtube.com/user/calypso22).

I have frequently wished I could make parts, as some have been very difficult to source, so maybe the time will come when I will make a start.

Anyway, from what I've seen from your forum, I think I will be spending a lot of time reading and learning. Fascinating stuff.

Welcome to the collective John.  :borg:

I wouldn't worry to much about learning to run a lathe/mill. We're here to help with selction (always fun to spend somebody elses money.  ) if need be. But take your time and look around. We'll be more than happy to answer your question knowledgeably or at least try to.

Regards,
Bernd

Hi calypso

Welcome to MadModder. That is an impressive collection that you have. I went and watched several of them and I will be going back to watch the rest. Having a lathe or mill is not required to join the forum. We look forward to seeing more pictures of your collection and restoration of engines as you progress.  :ddb: :ddb:

Cheers

Hi John!

Welcome to the collective :borg:

There is no need to own machine tools to be a regular poster/contributor/commenter/modder etc... just the desire to get things done. So dive right in.
