My brother bought this Lathe off ebay and all it says on it is Made in Saxony.

Got to admit it is quite nice and all the slides feal nice, was a bargin. BUT need help finding out what it is. Sure someone knows what make or spec it is.

Thanks, I use that site loads for referances but carnt seem to find it on there.

It looks similar to a Mellor, but I'm not sure if it is the one?

Tony Griffiths has a "can you identify it?" section - look at Unknown Lathes in his machinery archive. Maybe he would post a pic of it there.
Saxony is the southernmost part of what was East Germany. The lathe probably dates from before reunification, and was no doubt made for export outside the communist bloc and labelled "Made in Saxony" in an attempt to avoid the possible negative connotations of "Made in the German Democratic Republic".

Maybe it is a 'Fischer' later named VEB, there is not much to go on except made in the same part of Europe but notice the somewhat enthusiastic use of nicely turned cranks instead of hand wheels on the carriage and on the back stop.
