Title: Hobby turning into work
Post by: ref1ection on January 09, 2010, 10:26:16 AM
Hi all,

Well it`s true. No matter what size machine you buy, the next job requires more machine. I`ve been browsing this site for a couple of months casually reading through some of the builds. Decided to buy a small lathe and mill to satisfy my renewed interest. My wife mentioned to her boss that I had bought the tools and he offers me work that requires a larger lathe.  :bang: Figuring that the side work would quickly pay for the larger lathe I bought that too. 3 weeks later they offer me more work that requires cnc but would quickly pay for itself. We`ll see what happens next.

Whoohoo having the hobby pay for itself is nice. When I went through a period of unemployment, my mill and lathe paid my mortgage.

Welcome to the collective :borg:

Hi Ray

Welcome to MadModders. It is nice to be able to do some work to help pay for your hobby but I hope that it doesn't turn it from a hobby into work as then it ceases to be fun. You may even be able to turn it into a full time business but don't put all your eggs in one basket. Since  :worthless: you will have to show us a few pics of some of your projects as you get a chance. If you have any questions there is always someone here willing to answer or at least give an opinion.  Just be sure to save enough time for yourself as  :proj: is infecting everyone here.

Cheers

Welcome to the collective Ray.  :borg:

Like your motorcycle. I hear they are not to fast.

Lucky for you you have a wife that finds you jobs that you like to do. Mine finds jobs I don't like to do. I just wish it would include getting bigger equipment. (now for some reason that doesn't sound right)

Anyway have fun.

Regards,
Bernd

The boss thought he was going into partial retirement 6 years ago. Huh

Now he employs 5 including me, his wife to run the books and a part-timer.

I guess life didnt turn out like he expected.

Have fun.
