Title: Headstock gear lub.
Post by: Shepherduke on December 18, 2009, 02:46:55 PM
What lub is needed for non-metallic  gears in a mini lathe headstock?
Will silicon grease do the job?  Thanks in advance.

I have found that it is a wast of time to put any thing on the gears. It's not going to stay there.
I used some on my mini-lathe and the next time I had the head of all of the lub was on the bed and not on the gears.

If they're some kind of plastic I'd sy none at all. It's slippery enough without lube.

Besides there isn't much friction on two spur gears.
