Title: my first engine! it runs
Post by: jim on December 05, 2009, 10:45:54 AM
well i got it running!!

i didn't put it on a base due to lack of suitable metal :(

its rough and ready and i've learned a lot! i ran it for a few minutes, took it to pieces and cleaned it all. it would then run by blowing (hard !!) in to the feed pipe.

i was over come then, stuck the airline gun on to the inlet, i managed to forget i'd let the compressor run to 100 PSI, it went mental!! i was mesmorised :bugeye: :bugeye: next thing was a loud pop and the piston and conrod made a break for freedom.

put it all back together and it runs a treat. i'm inspired to go for another build now.......... just got to decide what! and do a neater job :D

Jim,

Wonderful  :ddb:  :ddb:  :nrocks:  :nrocks:

I bet that was quite rush to see and hear that first time run.

I had to laugh about your description of the second run. Pretty neat.

Onward with that second engine.  :proj:

Jim,

You have just changed English counties.

You should now be wearing a real Cheshire cat grin, and it will take ages for it to wear off.

You have had the same feeling that we all get when we have a new runner, you have made inanimate lumps of material spring to life.

Well done.    :ddb: :ddb: :ddb: :ddb:

Your first runner! Very nicely done Jim!

I know just how you feel...... I just had to phone my pal, who was up a tree with a chainsaw!

That grin will last for ages.....

Well done

There's nothing like that feeling of getting an engine running that you've built yourself. It's also pretty addictive too.

I look forward to seeing more of your handywork.

Well done Jim,  you'll have to do a log of the build next time if you get time. That's quite complex for a first engine too, most people start with an oscillator but with that you've learnt quite a few more techniques and tricks I think.

Nice video of your clean workshop floor too

Just kidding, I can't take the mic, my videos are pretty shocking - I need to learn how to edit too!
