Title: bigger lathe???

well i think it could be time for an up grade :scratch:

i've gone from a Chester conquest to a Sieg C3 to a Sieg C4

i've sorted the workshop today and i'm now thinking about getting a bigger lathe.

now to the question!!

space is limited, what depth of bench will i need for a bigger lathe, i'm thinking about 250mmish dia swing, varible speed lathe.

i'll be mounting direct to the bench, no swarf tray. 

any recomendations????  i'd like power cross slide, if i can :D

Mine's a 9" swing but the later one's are 10", it has a power crossfeed, it's 3 phase so the inverter provides variable speed etc, I s'pose the drawback for you will be the underdrive unit though ................... anyway, just food for thought  :thumbup:  The overall footprint is only slightly bigger than it's 9" x 20" predecessor, but it's ................. a little dam sight ................... heavier  :bugeye:

the weight will be an issue too :bang:

i've got to shift it through the garage and the utility to shed.

having spent 10 hours in the shed today moving stuff, i'll be thinking long and hard about it :scratch: :scratch: :scratch:

I've got the Warco WM 280V-F, which has power cross feed. Weight was also an issue for me thats why I didn't go for a Bantum. There are a few others doing the cross feed version like RDG and one on e-bay but watch what accesories you get, some don't include stedies etc in the price.

I'll pop out and have a measure in a while.

The Warco 280 needs a bench 500mm front to back and 1300mm wide. You should also allow about 250mm min to the left for removing the cover to access the change gears and 100mm to the right for the overhang of the tailstock hand wheel.

thanks for that, almost all the sizes that get advertised are for packing size :scratch:
