I'd say you were a dedicated hobby machinist. Can you reach your lathe and mill from it?
-
Brings a whole new meaning to life being in the crapper!
Pretty creative use of the space, though.
-
What a great way of getting rid of swarf. Shovel and flush.
It's also great to have running water in the shop, if only to wash your hands or have a drink, saves having to keep going into the main house.

Note to self: never accept an offer of tea at Bog's shop...

I guess when you're feeling a little more flush you could splash out......but don't let it drain your resources or you'll be down the pan....
Nice and tidy, how do you guys do it, do you all really clean up your machines every time you use them....??

Jeez and I thought reading on the John was bad enough...

New term "Machining on the John".
They'd never understand would they? Who? None machinist of course.
Now I wonder if he turns the toilet paper to size or mills it. How the heck would you hold it anyway?
You knew Colin when you posted that subject matter that we would run with it. Right?
I bet the wife wonders why your on the toilet so much and those strange sounds eminating from the room.
Oh I better stop. :nrocks:

excellent!!

Colin,
You must have realised by now that it wasn't a good thing showing a shot of the khazi, you left yourself wide open to the weird sense of humour that abounds here.
But hopefully that has now subsided and we can get onto more serious matters.
I can see one major problem you have with your lathe from the pics you have shown.
I would suggest you get it bolted to something rigid. Get rid of any rubber feet, and even bolting it thru the casting and drip tray onto a piece of old worksurface (as long as it isn't warped) will make it 1000% more rigid than you have it now. Unsupported, the castings bend and twist like a rubber band.
Then you can start to ask the lads how they tweaked theirs to get it cutting well, and I am sure you will soon get it sorted.

Nice one Colin at least you havent got to run far.
Know what you mean with that mini lathe, i bought one 3 years ago couldnt do a thing with it except file/debur 130 SS round posts.
Did find a good use for the lathe last year and thats powering up those flexi shafts.
Mines got the latest US board in went back twice. Other problem is the motors got no torque, you can quite easilly slow it down from 2000 rpm and stop it by grabbing the chuck with three fingers and thumb. Cant even spin polish aluminium any pressure put on slows spindle and need to do things like this quickly http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL15/728921/1243489/103092340.jpg
Only bought it for some late night stuff ie keep noise and vibes down.
Alright for plastic and wood.

yeah im getting fed up with this lathe pulling my hair out with it
thinkinking of getting rid of it
and purchasing something else when funds allow spent silly money on mill & a bit of tooling
been looking at this http://www.warco.co.uk/WM-180-Variable-Speed-Lathe-6D064B881E.aspx
its about twice the weight than the mini lathe but a similar size as thats all the room i have for 1
thanks colin

Don't feel too bad. Mine is in the kitchen. I may move mine to the bathroom too, I do some of my best thinking in there.
Also, I must say good job of getting maximum use from minimum space. Very creative.
Do you have the same problem I do? I have to pass through the kitchen on the way to the bathroom. Late at night..... dark..... no shoes on...... finding that bit of swarf you missed during clean-up?
-
looks real good  Ideal for those not FLUSH with cash

Colin
That is a great use of a glow plug spanner by the way and love the RC cars. Do you do any work towards them in the shop?
-
swarf is a bit of a problem
i bought a dyson vac to help i have to clean up very often as my other half would hit the roof
and yes i race rc cars i do try and make a few bits for my racing
i only made a few bits on the lathe since ive had it a couple of the brass torches the handlle you seee on the toolpost and a saddle clamp kit from hemmingway
the glow plug spanner is when i used to race 1/8th stock cars easier for me to use
thanks colin
