Well, having introduced myself, I apparently can't avoid showing
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt339/Alan_Haisley/WobblerObliqueView.jpg)
to the crowd. Although it is crude, I'm still proud that I was able to understand the concepts of this kind of engine and was actually able to make the parts fit well enough to work.
I thought I was being clever using flat head screws to hold brass plates to both the column as well as the cylinder so that when I fouled the timing I wouldn't have to remake everything to try again; then the darned thing went and ran first time.

Wobblers are a marvelous little thing, aren't they Alan?
I.K. Brunell had the same basic idea as yourself, but he made his a twin cylinder, 8ft bore with a 14ft stroke, to go into a ship, but still the same principle as yours. And it worked well, just like yours.
Is it a case of great minds thinking alike?

That looks like a little engine that does :)
It's nice to think of something and make it. It doesn't matter how many have made similar in the past..... You made this one  (as said by many of us in the past, there is a great feeling of pride when your first model works  )
Now I may get a :wack: for this but.... I don't suppose you have video facility Alan? (I asked nicely.... No demanding)
It's just nice to see a runner running
Ralph.

Well done that Man

Little engines are great fun to run and build
You've got to think of your next project now :proj:
Just have fun with it :nrocks:
Cheers

Although it is crude,
It looks good and it runs, nothing crude about that
Well done ............ and thanks for popping in and sharing ............. welcome aboard.

I have not as yet made a little engine and I am constantly in awe of those who have and make one that works!
Great job!

Well it looks like all our overseas cousins and one long distant cousin have chimed in to give you kudos for a job well done.
Nice feeling having that first time engine turn over isn't it? :ddb:
Nothing crude about that engine from what I can see. And even if it is the next one will turn out better and the third even better and so on. Before long you'll be an expert on these little engines.
Glad you took the time to post a picture. Thanks.
Now get on with the next project. Take plenty of pics too.
Regards,
Bernd

Well done Alan!
Great forward thinking, with the plates & screws.....
Great engineering, they weren`t needed! :headbang:

Very Cool!
Neat mounting of the cylinder!

Well done Alan, oscillators are fantastic, I love seeing them on here because it's what most people start out with and every time I see one I get some of that feeling of seeing my first engine run coming back! :ddb:
As Stew said, :proj: will definitely strike now!

Crude? naw! Its a runner, doesn't matter if its rubbing two sticks together or splitting atoms, both make fire. The latter is not possible without knowledge of the first.
There are some who were working metal when Noah was roaming the oceans, others like me, just got off the bus. Taking an idea and getting it to bear fruit is the adventure.
What you have planned next?

Good job Alan.
It isn't as crude as you think. I realize we are all more critical of our own work than others. It is a good job!

It runs. That puts you in a club more exclusive than you think. How many other people do you know (outside of forums like this) that make stuff?

There's a message in there somewhere.....

great looking engine, and you should be very proud of it
