Title: Machinist's calculator
Post by: andyf on May 02, 2011, 05:36:16 AM
This looks like the sort of thing which would make a nice birthday present for a Madmodder:

and a more complete description http://littlemachineshop.com/instructions/4087DataSheet.pdf

according to which it will tell you things like the tap drill sizes for different percentages of thread engagement.

Thanks for sharing

Reminds me of the scientific calculator I bought in the super market it was a pound dearer then a standard one so I thought why not and bought it
I never could figure out how to use it  even standard calculations.

I have one.

I find it very good, like Jason has said i have drawer's full of scientic calculators and can't work them as they all have different methods of working.

Where this one score is that they have put some thought into what an engineer does.

Switching between inch and mm is just 3 presses, no having to enter 25.4 at any stage, just enter the figure, press mm or inch to define what you are starting in and then press the opposite button.

Works in imperial or metric threads, although the book is predominantly imperial they tell me they are working on a mertic / combined book.

The bit's I use most are tapers, enter lengths etc and it spits the taper out and measuring over thread wires which it does without any tables.

Do you know of any UK vendors, John? All I get on Google for "machinist's calculator" is a list of downloads. I could order one from LMS, but I think it's over the customs limit so shipping + duty + Royal Mail's commission for collecting it would make it uneconomic.

I got mine direct from the makers, Calculated Industries and explained about customs etc and it 'somehow' made it over here under the radar - nuf said ?
