I'd poked my head in here a few times and liked what I saw. It reminds me of a different site, but seems to actually be friendly.
Anyhow, I'm fiddytwo, and a long-time machinist who shares a little machine shop with my dad. We have a 16x40 lathe, Bridgeport, and 6x14 surface grinder. Lots of tooling too, and I don't mind sharing or giving lessons.
My background is 30 years of working in machine shops, now doing something related but not running machines everyday. I see a lot of people here who I know and know me from other sites. Since I seem to be history at one, I thought I add a new one.
Hellooo!!

Welcome aboard fiddytwo, jump right in and join the party :nrocks:

What a nice warm welcome! Thank you all.
If I need help with welding, tin-whacking or other metal forming and fabrication techniques, I now have a good friendly resource.
If on the other hand, you should ever want help with machining metals with HSS, drilliing, milling or carbide insert tooling, you may find me to be a long-winded, egotistical and pompous arse who actually holds a small shred of knowledge and experience with the subject.

Morn'in Toto. You're not in Kansas anymore. :D
Good to see you again.

What I do mostly is add tooling to it through Craigslist ads, Ebay and other venues. My dad is a retired moldmaker, now approaching 80. The shop is at his home, 7.5 miles from me. I get over there at least once a week, but don't actually have much time for many projects. I'm less interested in making up work now as I am in preparing the shop for what it will be when I retire and either live there or move it to my home.
I do machine whatever may fall in the door. My nephew has a well-tooled shoe repair shop, and we occasionally make replacement parts for his high-end commercial shoe machines. I occasionally alter tooling for my employer to make it work. I fix things that need fixing, but my greatest joy is when a nearby member of a website like this wants to spend a few hours getting general or specific hands-on lessons. I invite people to come and learn for a day or a an hour. In the first ten minutes I share everything I know in my 30+ years of machining, then we spend the remaining hours actually learning together the other things that need explaining. ;)
That about sums up what I do in the home shop! :)

I'm actually from Worcester (where my mom & dad still live. I now live right over in Spencer. If you ever need any machining help or capacity, just gimme a shout!

Lived in Boston for a short time. Been to Worcester a few times (a friend moved there in the 90s)... Drive through Mass a lot to visit in-laws in NH and my family in Maine (from there).

Looking forward to seeing what you guys bring to the forum.
