Title: Aldi palm router.
Post by: DavidA on June 29, 2020, 03:12:18 PM
Hi all.

I haven't been doing much modding recently, but I have come across a problem with my palm router.

First time I used it it was going well, then it began to vibrate. Examiation showed the cutter to be loose in the collet.  I was sure I tightened it up.

Anyway, after a few minutes more work it did it again.

Is anyone else here having the same problem with this router ?

The cutter supplied is 6.336 mm shank dia.

The cutters for my Elu router (which never come loose) are  6.325 mm dia shank.

Have you tried an Elu cutter in the Aldi router to see if it comes loose?

Not yet, but I will do tomorrow.

The Elu cutter shaft is 6.334 mm dia.  where as the original Aldi supplied cutter is 6.340 mm.

(Each cutter shaft measured in for places and averaged)

the Aldi cutter, being slightly larger, should be a better fit in the collet.

So it appears they are both supposed to be 1/4" (6.35 mm).

Note, using a better mic' to get these later measurements.

Have you inspected the collet for wear?

Sorry for the long delay.

I think I may have found the problem.  The Aldi supplied cutter shank  is ever so slightly oval.
